The SAM9X60 from Microchip Technology is a high-performance, ultra-low-power ARM926EJ-S 600 MHz CPU-based embedded microprocessor (MPU). The SAM9X60 supports various memory interfaces including 16-bit LPDDR/DDR2, 32-bit LPSDR/SDRAM, NAND flash, Quad SPI, and eMMC Flash. The device integrates powerful peripherals for connectivity and user interface applications. It offers state-of-the-art security functions such as secure boot capability with on-chip secure key storage (OTP), high-performance crypto accelerators (SHA, AES, and TDES) as well as tamper pins.
The ARM926EJ-S processor is a member of the ARM9™ family of general-purpose microprocessors. The ARM926EJ-S implements Arm® architecture version 5TEJ and is targeted at multitasking applications where full memory management, high performance, low die size, and low power are important features. Microchip offers four different supply and DRAM configurations, all fully tested power management solutions respecting the SAM9X60 power sequencing specifications. The ARM926EJ-S processor supports the 32-bit Arm and 16-bit THUMB instruction sets, enabling the user to trade-off between high-performance and high-code density. It also supports the 8-bit Java instruction set and includes features for efficient execution of Java bytecode, providing a Java performance like JITs (just-in-time compilers), for the next generation of Java-powered wireless and embedded devices. It includes an enhanced multiplier design for improved DSP performance.
