In summary, the main takeaways from the Renesas RF Synthesizers/PLLs presentation are: The Renesas first generation of RF Synthesizers are pin and software compatible with other similar solutions from other manufacturers. The Renesas 8V9705x devices offer better phase noise, lower spurs, a relatively predictable and stable phase noise when the operating temperature varies. In order to address the customer’s system cost constraints, the 8V9705x devices were designed on a cost effective process and also integrates LDOs, thus reducing the total BOM cost. For a more reliable operation, the devices support up to 105°C case temperature. Finally the devices offer what Renesas calls “Extended registers” that are optional registers that the user can program to enable more features for an additional control of the LO function.
