Benefits of the MTPL planar transformer are that it uses a hybrid coil construction that provides a copper fill factor of 50% versus 35% in other traditional planar designs. The hybrid planar transformer also has superior isolation between windings, and high voltage windings are an option. Windings are fully sealed and can be tested to MIL-PRF-27 requirements. Conductor copper thicknesses can be 0.5 mm and thicker, something difficult to achieve in an embedded printed circuit board winding. The ability to adjust turns or provide higher turns counts are no problem. In addition, the windings can be interleaved to improve coupling and reduce the proximity effect to minimize AC winding losses. All windings are thin foils which provide a favorable skin depth to conductor thickness ratio.
