XO Replacement Overview Slide 3

Traditionally, 3rd overtone or SAW-based crystal oscillators are limited to a single frequency and single power supply per device. They tend to be very expensive to manufacture for frequencies above 50 MHz because of the extensive manual manufacturing labor causing larger variability and defects. Lead times also tend to be longer due to the manual manufacturing process. In order to achieve higher frequencies, the thinner crystal tooling requirements pose a threat to the overall device reliability in the system. onsemi's silicon based PureEdge™ devices offer an inexpensive solution without degradation of AC performance for frequencies above 50 MHz. This is achieved by using a low cost, industry standard, off-the-shelf, fundamental mode crystal and silicon circuitry based on high precision Phase Lock Loop (PLL), improving reliability. A silicon based manufacturing flow offers reduction in product lead times. The onsemi solution provides the users with the flexibility to select multiple frequencies and power supplies from a single device, reducing BOM.
