The PureEdge™ solution uses a low cost, easy to manufacture 20 – 30 MHz fundamental mode crystal that has very predictable frequency stability versus temperature in addition to excellent reliability and mechanical robustness of the crystal. The silicon is mounted in a standard 7 mm x 5 mm 6-lead ceramic package. The crystal is placed on two pedestals on top of the die and is hermitically enclosed. The footprint of the device is identical (drop-in replacement) to the traditional crystal oscillator with six pins, allowing the user to validate the solution without changing the PCB layout. The PureEdge solution is also optimized for jitter and phase noise.  This solution also provides a similar or better performance to the 3rd overtone or SAW-based crystal oscillator.
