Applications often contain a wide variety of devices with varying power needs. Some devices continuously draw a consistent level of power. Other devices draw wildly fluctuating levels of power (spiking typically during start-up) that will sometimes exceed 150% of its normal power needs. Instead of requiring users to oversize the UPS to accommodate these peak loads, Tripp Lite Modular E3 Series 3-Phase UPS Systems feature built-in overload capacity. Even fully loaded, all UPSs will reliably support up to 125% overload for 10 minutes and up to 150% overload for 1 min. For example, a 60 kVA UPS system that is fully loaded (connected to 60 kVA of equipment). The equipment is turned on simultaneously and draws 90 kVA of power (150% of its normal power needs). The 60 kVA UPS will reliably support the 90 kVA overload for up to 1 minute--well past the few seconds needed for the equipment's power needs to return to normal.
