The previous slides highlighted the different Video CODECs supported by the SAM9M10: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.263, H.264, and VC-1. As was discussed previously, each video CODEC defines several profiles and levels to target different applications. To understand which profiles and which levels are supported, and their limitations, one example, the MPEG-2 video CODEC is shown on this slide. The MPEG-2 Part 2 defines four different profiles: SP for Simple Profile, MP for Medium Profile, the 4:2:2 Profile and HP for High Profile. Each profile defines four different levels: LL for Low Level, ML for Medium Level, H:14 and finally HL for High Level. As can be seen in the lower table a level can define a maximum resolution, a maximum bit rate (in Mbit per second) and different frame rates. The Microchip SAM9M10 supports the Main Profile (MP) and all of its levels.
